We all have busy days where we simply can’t get a meal on the table. And many of us, who have the time to cook, might still be stumped as to what to make. I fit in both categories.

Last night, we were rushing to get to my daughter’s dance recital. Of course, I hadn’t planned ahead of time and began rummaging through the pantry/fridge, looking for a quick meal idea. Mind you, this was at 5:30pm.

I stand here before you, with an open heart and in complete honesty, am about to disclose the absolute worst and unhealthiest dinner I have ever prepared in my life.

1. Sloppy Joe. Ok, if it was made from scratch (scratch meaning browning hamburger meat and adding a can of Manwich), it wouldn’t be so terrible at all, right? But I found a ready-made tub of Manwich, with the meat and everything else, ready to go. I heated the stuff up. And while I was doing that..

2. I grabbed some Texas garlic toast and threw those under the broiler. This was my older daughter’s idea and it was a nice change of pace from the typical hamburger buns (which shockingly, I happened to have).

3. I found 4 small containers of readymade Mac & Cheese. Zapped those in the microwave.

4. Then I realized that there were no veggies on the menu, nor did I have anything green in the house- not even salad! Mind you, I had gone grocery shopping earlier in the day and forgot to get vegetables. So…I grabbed a can of corn from the pantry and heated that up.

So that was our fine dining: pre-made Sloppy Joe on garlic toast, canned Mac & Cheese and canned corn.

Who can beat me? What’s the worst meal YOU ever prepared in a pinch?

Manwich is not bad it is only sauce. It is sloppy but I would never buy meat in a can. It is good over hamburger rolls.

I'm right there with Jen about detesting cooking. Terry, your Manwich meal sounds healthy and balanced in my book. I have kids and husband eating in all different shifts, so dinner varies accordingly. Today, my 8 year old had sponge bob mac and cheese and grapes, older kids and husband will have some sort of pasta. I'm also in agreement with Just Silly having the husband/dad cook - why does this chore naturally fall to the woman, especially when the woman has some form of add and has no desire to cook?!

I have given the kids Larabars and peanuts in the shell for dinner before. Cereal used to be an all the time meal, but I have gotten much better....we tend to have more healthy food in the house because I plan a menu in advance but if that falls through somehow then we eat all sorts of mixed up stuff

I had NO idea there was ready-made Manwich on the market!! :-) By the way, reading all of this makes me feel 100% better. There have been so many times that I have felt like the worst mother on the planet because I DETEST cooking! Any time I'm hanging out w/ my "mom" friends and they start talking about meal preparation, I completely go to Hawaii in my mind. Detailed conversations about food bore me to tears. I generally don't start thinking about what to make for dinner until at least 5 pm - this is definitely an area that I need to work on! :-)

Any variety Lean Cuisine w/ some shredded cheese thrown on top; microwave a bag of frozen veggies (any kind); arrange it all nicely on a plate and serve with a smile. Bon Appetit!!

What's wrong with popcorn?????? That was our dinner most Sunday nights when I was growing up. :-) I think my worst would probably be a bowl of cereal and that was when I didn't feel like going anywhere. Otherwise it was Subway or DQ which we ate far too often.

Rice-a-Roni with a can of Chicken stirred in. I figure I'm teahing my kids how to survive college. And I like to cook.

What about not cooking and then looking pathetically at your husband, who has worked all day in a busy and dangerous job, and agreeing to let him cook if he'll tell you what he needs you to run and get from the store; even agreeing to take the 2 kids along with you to the store....anything as long as you don't have to: decide what to cook and then actually cook....(and have it come out edible)!!!!
