For at least a year I've been feeling like there was something more than just ADD going on, I was tired all the time, even when i just woke up from a full nights sleep, I felt hazy all the time. just had no energy, didnt want to do anything, the smallest task seemed like such a hassle, I was sore and achey alot , I mean the list just goes on and on

Well I finally went to my doctor determined to figure out what was up, I started by having her run a bunch of blood test, so I could start ruling things out, thats when I found out that my Vitamin D level was really low. Living in Seattle and being fair skinned I guess thats not too suprising!

But I didnt expect what I got... Its absolutely amazing that just a few days after taking the mega dose I was prescribed I feel a 100x better than I have in I dont know how long.

I'm getting restful sleep with dreams (havent dreampt in years)

I'm taking pride in my work agian

I feel more compelled to get things done (though actually doing it is another story)

I'm less cranky

I'm havent taken any OTC pain relievers in 5-6 weeks

I could go on and on, but really I just feel so much better than I ever imagined one vitamin could make me feel!

When I first found out i did some roaming online and found that something like 48% or 52% of woman are vitamin deficent, especially those in less sunny places. So I thought I would share, just in case its that one thing someone else needs.

What millegrams vitamin D are you taking? My doctor said to take 1,0000. Something's got to help me. I feel like I'm flipping out, or losing my mind, or both!
My Doc gave me a prescription for 50,000ui a week for 8 weeks to get it built up in my system and then said to do the 1000 daily.... has your doc tested your vitamin D level?
No, I have not been tested for my vitamin D level. Is it just a blood test?
HOW INTERESTING!!! So glad you shared! I had my test done a YEAR ago!! and with ADHD well, I just have not got around to getting the Vitimans YET!! and when I have gne to look at the store... WAYYYY overwhelmed.... too many choices.. so-- I blew it off!! Like you, I am tired always!! (even with my concerta) I am sore... and my brain is foggy!! (more so than before!) so you really feel better huh? She never mentioned the RX for the Vit. D I wonder why? Sh did tell me it was VERY VERY low.
It is just a blood test, my doc also tested my iron level, thyroid and something else that I just cant think of right now...

I do feel so much better, I dont feel as great as I did when I first started taking it, that rush passed after like the 1st 5 weeks. But I still feel more normal (whatever that means). There are definetly still things I need to do that would help even more, and I completely plan on doing those things, exercising regularly, eating better, etc etc.... someday

Yes! Vit. D has helped me too! I'm in a high risk category for breast cancer, so I go every 6 mo for a check at a university hospital's High Risk Breast Center. One of the things the doctor has me doing for prevention is taking higher levels of vit. D. I now get 800 IU from my multivitamin, 2,000 IU from a D supplement (Vitamin D-3 as cholecalciferol), and 320 IU from my fish oil supplement.

While I began taking it for breast cancer prevention, it soon became apparent that there were other side benefits as well. Like Rachel and others who've replied, I had very low energy. I've also been on antidepressants for about 10 years. With the vit. D my energy is so much better (still not completely where I'd like it to be, but better enough that I can actually manage to drag myself to the gym a few times a week now, which in turn also boosts my energy.)

Within a few months the doctor who manages my ADD & antidepressant meds began reducing the prescription amount on the antidepressant. Now I'm completely off of it. My immune system seems stronger too.
this is the second time in two days that I have heard this. I am headed to Walgreens to by some!

Readers Digest had the other article- it was saying how most vitamins are not worth the money but vit. D is VERY important. I read that when I was nursing I should take Vit D, but I took the prenatal vitamins so I didn't bother. My ADD symptoms got worse after I stopped taking prnatal vitamins. hmmm....

THanks for sharing!

I am from the Vancouver ISland, but living in OK. I wonder if I still have the body of a NW'er even though I have moved?
Just an FYI I started vit D 2000iu once a day its been 5 days im not sure if its mind over matter however, I feel TOTALLY different. I jump right out of bed in the am and I do not loose energy at 3-4 pm everyday... and.. IM LESS hungry for junk food!! I also am doing a liquid multi and a liquid fish oil. Liquid because I have ADHD and want it fixed yesterday!! hahaha ( liquid gets right into the system) if interested I can give you the brand name but I add it all to oj in the am and i cant even taste it.... really!! the oil stays in fridge and is lemon flavored.... NO FISH taste or fish ( burps) ewww--- sorry just sayin' : )

TRY IT!!!

Feel better ya'll

Hugs!
Rachael,
Thanks for posting this. My doctor just called me this week and put me on Vitamin D. I am to take it twice a week. I was really surprised. I drink milk and try to get out in the sunshine. I couldn't believe how much I felt better after the first dose. Is there something that depletes it?
I'm on 50,000 twice a week.
