Hi all,

I have a miserable time starting projects. I'm a writer, so this procrastination is a bit of a problem. The issue is a daily struggle but waaaaayyy worse in the winter. Hibernation and hyper-focus on anything but work become my way of life. I'll start the day with lots of energy and excitement and end feeling guilty and like a Load because I didn't accomplish anything.

Anyway, I'd like to have a support system in tow to help me and others get started. We ADD'ers are so good at problem solving and I know there are lots of good ideas to avoid procrastination already. I think I need a check-in system each morning.

I welcome any ideas or anyone interested in creating an Action Group of some sort.

I know exactly what you mean, I am part of a group that deals with exactly this same issue and its intended to strengthen people's writing (if thats their goal, which most of them it is) and you may be interested in it. The website is http://www.lifewrite.com/ and you want to join the 101 program and the Forum is a GREAT place to get support and encouragement on a daily basis. Steve (the developer of the program) checks the forum every morning and offers tips and encouragement in helping you reach your goals, and so do the other members of the forum...I am learning a lot from the daily PDF's and the different insights I am getting from everyone...I am getting more focus and clarity (well Im working on it anyways) with my goals and ideas and its helping to make life a little bit easier.

Not that I am opposed to a group here like you mentioned, I just thought of the other group when you said you were a writer and thought you may be interested.

I am all for a group just for ADD women, I think its a fantastic idea
Thanks Rebekah! I'll give it a shot. But, I'm still interested in creating one with ADD moms.
YES I NEED IT TOO!! that is the exact reason i am going to the doctor tomorrow.. I think one issue is meds and the other is of course winter!! i think i need to move somewhere sunny!!! lol i think the three of us can start a group!!!

Any auto e-mails out there that will pop up and say "Get off the damn computer!" "Stop playing that game and get going!"?
I found a great computer calender software called calendarscope (www.calenderscope.com) and it was $30 and I could color code events and reminders and customize it and it sends me reminders to get off the damn computer...LOL!

Has anyone tried Cozi? It's a free calendar and I've really liked it. Cozi.com

It has shopping lists, a journal and color coding for family members. You can send out emails for reminders. I like it because I can email my husband, also ADHD, and remind him of stuff.

I bet I could put a reminder on Cozi, at like 9:30 a.m. or so, texting to my phone saying something like "Are you working yet? Have you written a sentence yet?"

What I really need is accountability and reminders. I get hyperfocused on some stupid thing on the computer and, before I know it, I've lost the day.

I have a friend who I check in with each morning at 9:30 to plan my day. We call each other Action Buddies. It's been great but I need to take it one step further. I think it's asking too much to plan the day with someone and, then, ask them to hold you accountable.

It would be great to have Kick Start buddies where you check in with each other through email, texts, whatever and ask for proof that you are on task. For me, I could send one sentence to prove I'm actually writing. Once I get started I'm OK. I need to keep it really simple. Just thinking out loud.

I havent tried Cozi, but I need lots of visual and auditory things like large color coded blocks and colored reminders and beeps and dings, stuff that catches my attention, so I have found this calender software works GREAT for me.

As far as groups go I think having someone to be accountable to would be awesome. I tend to waste a whole day doing absolutely nothing and then can barely get dinner done in time, when thats my whole plan for the entire day. Cleaning...never happens!! Mostly everything I intend to do never happens...like dinner, well I just ruined it. I forgot how to make the curried lentils so I made them how I thought I was supposed to and it didnt work, so now we have nothing for dinner...which is the story of my life. I can make great plans but my follow through SUCKS!!! So I need accountability help...bad! I can turn off even the loudest reminder if no one knows I'm supposed to be doing something besides me.

Just checking in, based on our conversations yesterday. This morning I exercised, wrote one sentence in my journal. I need to make three phone calls and write another sentence for my copywriting gig. I'm sending myself a text message at 11 a.m. and 11:30 "Are you writing?" and "Have you made your phone calls?"

I'll let you know how it goes.

I was able to get to bed close to the time I set for myself (I was 15 minutes late) and slept ok, I didnt fall asleep until about an hour after I went to bed, but thats pretty typical for me, unfortunately I went back to sleep after the kids got off to school and slept until about 20 minutes ago, so I got nothing done this morning...and thats what I am trying to avoid doing, and today it didnt work out and I have to go to work at 11 and work till 4 so the day is shot as far as getting things done. But at least I thawed out the chicken for dinner already...thats a new one for me!!!
