I have started using MyFitnessPal.com, because although I thought I was eating fairly well, I found out I was WAY off (after starting this).  I have lost 11 pounds since starting about 2 mos ago.  I am ADHF (attention deficit/hyper focused) so logging my food every day fits right in with that!  My Doctor recommended it - if you have a smart phone (I have a Droid) you can log your food via the phone, which is great.  There is a similar one called LooseIt, which I think is also an app for the iphone.

Hi I am new to this site and am so greatful I have found it. I am 62 lady that has always know I had some thing not quit write. I have ADHD, dyslexia, taken medication for depression and anxiety for 35 years.

I had one doctor resently ask me why I keep looking to find out why I can't read and spell and all the things that come with these disorders. I have wanted to be able to let people know what it is like but not found any researsher that were interested. But now I have found Mom with ADHD that makes it clear what I have been dealing with all these years. I left my husband of 45 years last year but thank god I found out I have not been letting him be my husband and instead blaming him for the things he dosent do. He would if I let him. We are back together and working on things. I am basically letting him be him. I am working on my weight. I also suffer from a lot of pain and am not able to the phycial things that used to keep me sane. I have 4 pugs at my house and am taking them one at a time for a walk. I just signed up with Walgrens waking on line program were you enter how far you walk. i will add things about weight progress as it happens. I know this was just to be about weight but as a adhd person I write about more than just the topic.

I plan to loss 15 pounds for now. I have far more than that to lose but am starting small.

Hi Terry,

I finally retrieved my password for the email address that your mail from here goes to, and the first one I read was yours about putting on winter weight and eating carbs. OMG, that's exactly the same thing I do.  To the extent that I'll even scrounge in the brown sugar container to eat a few lumps if I don't have anything crunchy or sweet in the house.  It's pathetic!  The first time, after a particularly tough year, I spent what I later found out was $99.00 a pound and lost 20 lbs. over the summer by using a personal trainer at the gym - the gym I'd not attended for the 5 months I'd been signed up.  Yeah, and I finished paying that off about 5 months after I lost that weight...  Just can't get myself into the joint unless I have the accountability of keeping an appointment!  Well, school is finished as of yesterday and I've got to start the process all over again, but I only have 2 training sessions leftover from last summer, when I had purchased a few more to get off that year's weight.

I have a colleague at work who lost weight along with her husband just using that website, "MyFitnessPal.com" and I'm going to try to do the same.  So anyway, I put on 13 lbs this winter and need to get back down to at least 130.  I have too many pants that don't fit, and I'm tired of wearing long cardigans or jackets to cover my midsection!

I'll sign onto this more often now.  Thanks for starting this topic, Terry!

Happy summer,

:)

Mary Kay in Illinois (yes, that "MK,"....)   :)

I had a great milestone today! I have lost exactly 60 lbs, and I bought some new clothes in the non-plus size stores for the first time since 2005! I still have a long way to go (as far as the numbers on the scale tell  me anyway, but my clothes are saying different) but its nice to really feel like something is actually happening for once! I have realized that without daily exercise, I just dont function very well, period.

Hi Mary Kay, I have never used myfitnesspal.com, but I might have to look into it now :)

Hi, I am new to this site as well,  It sounds like things for you are going in a good direction.  I have taken meds for anxiety/depression for a long time.  It was not till I had my two children that things with the adhd vamped up:)  I am 40 years old and I too am trying to lose weight.  My mom and dad both have adhd.  Do you take meds for the adhd.  My mom is basically healthy(some pain from back surgery and high blood pressure. It's seems that the adhd meds raise blood pressure.  She is waiting to see someone for meds, We both find success with counseling.  I enjoyed your blog,  I too am greatful for this site.  My kids are young and sometimes we just all need to decompress!

Have a great week,

Hi!

I was diagnosed w/having hypothyroidism after my daughter was born.  All the weight that I lost after the birth came back with a plan.  A plan to depress me.  Hypos have a hard time with losing weight but how much harder is it with ADD?  I can't stick to a diet or exercise program for long.  It's all very boring.  Being a mom to an ADHD child and wife to a ADHD husband requires energy stores that I just don't have most of time.

I know that being overweight can cause me to be overly tired, depressed and cranky.  Oh and the health issues too.  You'd think I'd just do what I had to do and be done with it and I'd be the first one to tell myself that....no patience whatsoever.

In thinking about what I'd need for a diet/exercise plan to be successful?  I'd want a Dietitian who could plan the menus and also be a motivator.  I give up easily if I don't see results fast enough.  This diet would have to be family oriented so that everyone was eating the same type of thing.  My kid is 7 and is moody about the food color, texture....it changes daily.  If I ate healthier, it might make even walking the dog (or is that she's walking me?) something I could do without feeling like it was chore.

I am a short order cook.  I am a vegetarian, my husband and stepson are meat and potatoes type of guys, 2 of my kids have extreme sensory problems with limited food repertoires, and my other three girls are great eaters who enjoy variety and who prefer to eat real healthy food over things like frozen pizza.  A lot of people think I am crazy, but I am telling you the reduction in stress at mealtimes is well worth the fact that I make an extra dish or two.  And the key to exercise is to not feel like its another thing on your to-do list.  We bike and hike with our kids, but they just think we are going out in the woods to look for stuff.  I also love to dance, so I consider it exercise to dance around the kitchen for 30 minutes with my boys while making dinner.  If its raining, I will go window shopping at the mall.  I also try to park farther away from the stores, take stairs etc.  So many thing burn calories and get your metabolism going.  Walking the dog is great!  A lot of people I know have found success with something like weightwatchers online as well.  There is online support, and it is an organized system so easier to keep track of.  Good Luck!
